Well the July 4th weekend is officially over. Especially for those of you who decided to take Monday July 7th & Tuesday July 8th off. Yours truly drove back to Philly (my birthplace & hometown) for the weekend to visit family for some BBQ & fun. I also took the time to drive two hours away & make a stop in Dover Delaware to visit my Uncle Charles. He's 74 and has a 14 year old son (my cousin Shad) so he's been doing the damn thing before Cialis or Viagra was on the market. Hopefully my "dice" will work that well when I get up there in age because I have every intention to keep rolling my "dice". Uncle Charles threw a nice big family get together that turned out very well with plenty of food, family & friends to reconnect with. One interesting thing about Dover Delaware is that it's very rural with nothing but corn fields & farmland for miles. Of course there is Delaware State which is an HBCU that sits not far away & there is also a mall, but the area is still rather "country" for lack of a better term. While I was sitting down eating a plate of food an Amish horse & buggy drove by at about 5 miles an hour bumping hip hop music. How in the hell these people don't believe in electricity & cars, but are bumping hip hop music from a horse drawn buggy had me trippin. I was rather surprised that Amish or Mennonites would be bumping the Roots from a horse & buggy. I damn sure wish I had my video camera. This also led to a discussion about the The Roots's picnic that went down in Philly a few weeks ago in June. My homie Black Thought aka Tariq Trotter had mentioned the following video about the possibility of having The Roots family picnic in Brooklyn, D.C., & a few other cities next year. Hopefully they'll be convinced to bring it down to Atlanta as well. From what I heard The Roots picnic in Philly was a success & they plan to turn it into something bigger year after year. Maybe we'll see more Amish people from Dover Delaware make the two hour horse & buggy ride to Philly next year rocking their beards like Freeway. Peep the video below!
