Hip Hop icon DJ Red Alert will be celebrating 25 years on radio! The NY native & now ATL resident has been putting it down for hip hop for an even longer period of time & is still as humble as ever despite his legendary status in the music industry & hip hop culture. There have been countless times where we've met artists & so-called celebrity deejays with heads larger than Mount Rushmore when they've only been in the game for 14 minutes & 15 seconds. Most of us here at ATLSTATUS just aren't "Hollywood" & we really are just working people. DJ Red Alert has thrived on that same work ethic while avoiding the "Hollywood" label through his humbleness & talent. There are some artists & deejays that we just don't go out of our way to greet, but it's that everyday warm personality over the years that continuously commands our respect & appreciation for DJ Red Alert. There are too many countless stories we could repeat about the greatness of DJ Red Alert, but we'll continue to salute him as we approach October as it marks his significant benchmark in entertainment. You can catch DJ Red Alert on Sirius Satellite radio Channel 43 "Backspin" & locally in Atlanta on Grown Folks radio 102.5 FM on Sunday nights from 7pm-10pm. Uncle Red we salute you!

Philly native & ATL resident Musiq Soulchild must have left his "Soul" back in Philly with this new song & video called "Radio". This song sounds like a complete 180 degree turn from the quality work he's done in the past. It's rather sad to see a talented artist like himself basically dumb down the lyrics, water down the instrumentation & try to not so creatively BEG for more commercial radio play. If his new album sounds anything like this song he may as well change his name to Musiq "No" Soulchild.

CW Channel 69 will debut the "Frank & Wanda" show at 11pm every evening beginning on August 18th. The new program is setup like a "Best Of Wanda & Frank" type of show & will be condensed down into a 30 minute television show. With the increasing popularity of satellite radio, ipods, & quality competition from the likes of Steve Harvey (102.5 FM), Tom Joyner (104.1), 95.5 The Beat, & 107.9 FM, it's becoming clearer that commercial radio shows are forced to take greater steps to stay relevant even as more people these days are tuning in less. As more & more people become turned on by other mediums besides traditional radio it usually translates into less advertising dollars being spent at radio stations which in turn translates into less paid jobs & more interns slaving to pick up the slack. The partnership with CW Channel 69 & V-103 is already reportedly attracting advertisers to better increase the both media outlets' bottom line.

The show is to be reportedly recorded with 9 HD television cameras which in tests can pick up even the slightest of details. "I'm always camera ready" says Frank Ski. He also added that the HD cameras could even pick up bits of "dust" on his mustache. Needless to say he's going to have to make sure he cleans off the "Booger dust" & keep himself immaculate throughout the show.

Most of us here don't listen to radio much at all, but we want to know from the rest of you about your radio listening habits. Will y'all be watching? Does anyone listen to their show? One of our favorite hip hop artists Common recently did an interview across the pond in the UK to promote his new movie "Wanted" starring Angelina Jolie & Morgan Freeman. The movie has been released here in the U.S. & is currently in the theatres. Common's career is really blowing up with him landing various movie roles & in this particular interview Common talks about his upcoming album called "Invincible Summer" that will be produced by The Neptunes & Atlanta's own "Mr. DJ" who was Outkast's 1st deejay & producer. He also breaks the news about his upcoming role in the new Terminator movie. Common says this new album will be more uptempo & something for the clubs, but not anything that will be out of character for himself.
